Arizona Cardinals Unveil Slick New Helmets for 2022

The first uniform change in years, the Arizona Cardinals recently unveiled new alternate helmets

The last time the Arizona Cardinals debuted anything new in the realm of uniforms was in 2016 when the entire NFL unveiled new Color Rush uniforms that each team would wear once per season.

The primary uniform worn by the Cardinals, red with white lettering, was debuted in 2005. That’s right, it has been nearly 17 years since a major change has been made. The black alternates currently worn by the team on occasion were not released until 2010 and while they featured black jerseys, they kept the traditional white helmet.

In fact, this is the first helmet change in any capacity since the 2005 release which featured a redesign of the traditional Cardinal logo that had been on the teams’ helmets since 1960.

The Cardinals are planning to wear these alternate helmets for three games in 2022. According to Johnny Venerable of PHNX Sports those games will include a preseason match with the Baltimore Ravens and two regular-season games against the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints.

Fans across social media platforms have vocally pushed for a new look over the past several years. More and more teams have been making minor or major changes to their look in the past few years and many have felt the Cardinals have been left behind in the push to re-brand.

This new change comes on the heel of a huge contract extension for quarterback Kyler Murray that will have him leading the franchise through 2028.

Other big news for the Arizona Cardinals this week was the unexpected return of 3x Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson who was supposedly mulling retirement throughout the offseason and notably went unexcused from mandatory minicamp in June.

Whether or not that was planned, it does seem as if the franchise is looking toward a new era of football. One led by an exciting young quarterback drafted by the organization, a rare feat for the Cardinals, as well as a young coach still finding his way through the mires of the NFL.
