Devin Booker’s Shine Means the Suns Don’t Need Durant

Devin Booker’s Shine Means the Suns Don’t Need Durant

Phoenix already has their own superstar in Devin Booker

Devin Booker has quickly emerged as an NBA villain, and Suns fans don’t like to hear this. We are quick to defend him on social media and we ask ourselves, why? Why is he hated?

Over the past five seasons, he has averaged 26 points-per-game and is a three-time All-Star.  He had back-to-back 40 point games in the Finals, and is about two seasons away from being the all-time Phoenix Suns scoring leader. He is only 25 years old, (he will be 26 in October), and already is one of the best, pure scorers in the NBA. A certified three-level scorer and his defense has VASTLY improved while earning 1st Team All-NBA honors last season So, why the Booker disrespect?

The answer is easy. He will be legendary, even if his 70-point game didn’t already earn him that title.

Suns fans should understand this point of view. We hated Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. We despised their greatness because of the heartbreak they bestowed upon us, and because they weren’t on our team. Its wasn’t until they both retired that we ultimately decided to respect their greatness, and in some cases, admire it.

Rumors were swirling around this off-season about how Kevin Durant, and even Lebron James, wanted to come play alongside Devin Booker. The players see it. The league knows it. When it is all said and done, Devin Booker will be one of the greatest players to ever play this game.

I understand how Suns fans could be upset about not landing a guy like Durant, but…this will not be the last time a superstar will want to come play in Phoenix. In fact, this is only the beginning! Two seasons ago, a superstar by the name of Chris Paul, wanted to come play in Phoenix, and the Suns ultimately got the deal done.

So technically, this is already the second off-season we have encountered this unique situation, and Booker hasn’t even entered his prime yet.

The 2022-23 NBA season is going to be Devin Booker’s best season statistically. Mark my words. Would it surprise anybody if he goes out and averaged 30 points per game? Personally, I think he finishes with 29 points per game, and then finishes with a top three shooting percentage for his career. His career high for shooting was 48.9% just two seasons ago.

It took Jordan seven seasons before winning his first NBA Championship, and nine for Lebron. This will be Booker’s eighth season.

So don’t be too upset Suns fans, because we already have a Hulk (Booker), and the best is yet to come. So enjoy watching him play. Because when it is all said and done, he will be the greatest player to ever wear a Phoenix Sun jersey.

He will be legendary.
