Greg Dortch: A Hidden Gem

Greg Dortch: A Hidden Gem

Greg Dortch turned a lot of heads in the Cardinals first preseason match of the 2022 season

After watching the Arizona Cardinals’ first pre-season game this past week, I felt refreshed seeing the Cardinals play again. Seeing that Cardinal Red was mesmerizing but you know what else was mesmerizing? Watching the Cardinals’ offense score 36 points. The Cardinals looked electrifying on all sides of the ball at some point in the game. There were many players who impressed but one individual, in particular, was wide receiver Greg Dortch.

Dortch will be entering his 4th year as a professional football player after getting his start in the league by being signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets following the 2019 draft. Since 2019, Dortch has seen time with the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, and now Arizona Cardinals. Dortch has come a long way and is hoping to make Arizona his home for the foreseeable future.

Dortch’s tenure with the Cardinals has been an interesting one to say the least. The Cardinals signed Dortch shortly before last season and then cut him after one month only to bring him back to their practice squad. Then they signed him again but this time to their active roster last December.

Dortch would then go on to start 2 out of the 5 games he saw action in last season. He was used as an outside receiver and as a returner on special teams. Dortch was targeted 3 times and hauled in 3 catches to go along with 24 yards. He also had one lone rushing attempt for 24 yards. Although Dortch did not see much action, he did flash his potential.

Now fast forward to this week, Dortch made some spectacular plays in the Cardinals’ first preseason game. He wound up having 4 catches for 53 yards to go along with 5 punt returns for 89 yards that included one spectacular 55-yard return.

Dortch looked fast and it looked like he had lots of burst in his step. If he continues to prove himself this preseason, he will definitely find himself making the 53-man roster. Even if he is not used as a receiver, he could make a big impact in the return game on special teams.

The Cardinals may have found a hidden gem, a potentially elite talent. Greg Dortch must continue to impress like he has all off-season and he is gaining steam from fans and coaches alike. Hopefully, Dortch can stay healthy and continue to show his potential!
