The Kyler Murray Situation

The Kyler Murray Situation

Patrick Peterson is, once again, expressing his frustrations about the Arizona Cardinals

On his weekly podcast, “All Things Covered“, Peterson discussed the Cardinals’ starting quarterback, claiming that Kyler Murray “don’t care about nobody but Kyler Murray.”

On his podcast, Peterson reinforced the narrative that Murray was taking shots at his head coach in his postgame press conference after the Chargers game on Sunday.

When Kyler was asked in the postgame about the interception he threw during the game against the Los Angeles Chargers he was specifically talking about one play. Murray stumbled on his words when talking to the reporter but said:

“No that wasn’t for Hop actually, schematically…they were…we were kinda f—ed.”

Murray’s demeanor and tone was a little off but it was not because he was taking shots at his head coach. Murray was a little upset that they had just lost a close game, one he knew they should’ve won.

Murray responded to Peterson’s remarks later that night via Twitter.

Criticisms of Kyler Murray overblown

Peterson has since gone back on his remarks after the comments made headlines all over the internet and met a variety of criticisms. The ex-Cardinal has been making various comments in the last few weeks about the drama in the desert and his personal feelings towards the organization ever since his departure, especially after the Vikings beat the Cardinals during their Week 8 meeting.

Murray’s personality and work ethic have been dragged through the mud long before Peterson’s remarks this week. In February, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the vibe between Murray and the Cardinals was that he was being described as “Immature” and “Self-centered”. These remarks came after the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cardinals in their only playoff game of the postseason and there were reports that Murray left the blowout before time had expired. These comments also came after Murray purged everything on his social media.

Many news outlets and fans have been quick to criticize the Cardinals starting quarterback for his actions. Yes, some of his actions do look incredibly skeptical. Yes, Murray may have some more maturing to do. But we are not in the locker room or on the practice fields every day and we do not see absolutely everything that is taking place. All we are judging is what we’ve seen and heard on television, the internet, and from supposed trusted journalists.

Murray has a soft-spoken demeanor and lets his play do the talking. He leads by example and his actions. Murray is a professional and he knows what he needs to do to play at a high level and be prepared week in and week out. Many can question Murray’s behavior but what cannot be questioned is the life and identity that he has brought to the Cardinals offense. Since Murray’s rookie season, he has turned around an offense that had no hope into a unit that has real elite potential. He brings energy and an exciting dynamic that invigorates the guys around him.

Kyler Murray may not be the typical professional quarterback, but he does not fit the narrative that the media or Peterson have been encouraging.
