Steve Keim Still Isn’t Over Kyler Murray

When the fans of the Arizona Cardinals think that they’ve heard the last from Steve Keim, he rears his opinion and face like a traffic jam at the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 10.  Nobody wants it, yet, here it is again.

Kyle Odegard did the first reaction to Keim’s dissing of Murray on the Colin Cowherd show, and if you haven’t read that- you absolutely should. Odegard professionally picked apart Keim’s 45-second-ish rant on Murray with laser precision.

Odegard’s piece was also inspired by NFL Insider Jordan Schultz’s Interview with an anonymous NFL personnel staffer back in December of last year. Could this have been Terry McDonough in any way, shape, or form?

Ask any Arizona Cardinals fan what their favorite Steve Keim moment was, and they’ll say the day he departed. Keim did hit it right from 2013-2015, but after that, the well ran dry due to a comedy of errors.

Those errors were made in the draft, and instead of taking sure-fire QB prospects like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, or Deshaun Watson (before the massage incidents), he opted for the likes of Deone Bucannon, Robert Nkemdiche, Haason Reddick (an ultimate when in Arizona-bust), and Josh Rosen.

The first round was Keim’s Achilles’ Heel, but there were some later finds that saved him. Budda Baker, John Brown, and fan-favorite Eno Benjamin. However, these finds were so few and far between that their impact was often muffled by the rest of Keim’s moves. Let’s all take a moment of silence for when Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon were on the roster.

We all knew that Keim was the issue, but he seemed content with the fact that Michael Bidwill had no galls to fire him. Not even after the 2018 season.

What was brilliantly pointed out by Odegard was the fact that Keim was the one who extended Murray, and now Keim himself was talking in a third-person-like lens as if he had nothing to do with it. Murray owned up to the fact that he needs to be more coachable and open to his new head coach, Johnathan Gannon. So why Keim got upset at that is beyond interpretation.

In the end, this really isn’t anything new to Arizona Cardinals fans. Keim never made any sense with his moves, on or off the field. Kudos to Odegard for the great article, a prime example of what sports journalism should be.
