Cardinals Add Stanford Receiver in 3rd Round

The Arizona Cardinals made a number of picks in the NFL draft this past week as they set out to fill various holes on their aging roster. But as they grow younger, they create hope for a Lombardi to finally arrive in the desert.

With holes seemingly everywhere on the Cardinals roster, the draft offered an opportunity to bring in players on both sides of the ball to help bring stability to the various position groups. Although the Cardinals have many options at the wide receiver position, they would end up adding one more with the 94th overall pick.

Cardinals Draft Stanford WR Michael Wilson

With the 94th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Arizona Cardinals selected wide receiver Michael Wilson.

Wilson, who measures at 6’2 and 213 lbs, is a receiver known for his route running and ability to make plays in the red zone.

Wilson played in 36 games across his 5 years at Stanford and recorded 134 receptions for 1,662 yards and 11 touchdowns. Wilson is a physical red-zone receiver who’s not afraid to go up and over defensive backs to make the catch.

The upside for Wilson is tremendously high and he could develop into an All-Pro receiver, however, the only knock on his resume is his ability to stay healthy. Wilson has not played a full year of football since his sophomore year of college but if he can find a way to stay on the field, his play will speak for itself.

How the Cardinals plan to use Wilson will be interesting. In college, he lined up typically as the Z receiver and was able to beat opposing corners off the ball when he was healthy.

Wilson joins an already crowded receivers room in Arizona but if he’s able to prove his worth and make some great plays early on he could ascend his way up the depth chart quickly.
