Were the Diamondbacks buyers or sellers before trade deadline?

The Diamondbacks were suspiciously inactive before the MLB trade deadline

There were plenty of trades that happened at the trade deadline. Juan Soto went from the Nationals to the Padres. The Yankees traded Joey Gallo to the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks didn’t do much.

Arizona sent fan favorite David Peralta to Tampa Bay. Personally, I would have tried to re-sign the Freight Train. Peralta started the season off slow, he couldn’t buy a hit at times. He ultimately ended up hitting .248 with 12 Home Runs for the Diamondbacks this year, which isn’t bad. There were plenty of reasons he was traded, but his expiring contract was the main reason. With only two months left in his contract, the team wanted to get something for him. He is an Unrestricted Free Agent with an expiring contract. MLB Teams usually trade players with expiring contracts rather than letting them go for free. Hopefully, he will return in the off-season. The Diamondbacks got a low-level Catching prospect, Christian Cerda, back for him.

Luke Weaver came to the D-Backs in the Paul Goldschmidt trade. He was great the first year he was in Arizona, but not so much since. He was traded to the Kansas City Royals for third baseman Emmanuel Rivera. Rivera and Weaver both were stuck in ruts and needed a change of scenery. Let’s hope Rivera finds his way here in the Valley of the Sun.

Overall, the Diamondbacks have not been exciting. They did keep the core together, minus Peralta. They didn’t sell one of the best Farm systems in the Majors, so that was good. Overall, the trade deadline for the Diamondbacks gets a C from me. They didn’t do anything to make a headline.
